Mission: to understand and represent key biogeochemical-physical interactions and feedbacks between the oceans and atmosphere in Earth’s climate system
The goal of the Surface Ocean-Lower Atmosphere Study (SOLAS) is to achieve, in the context of climate and environmental change,
quantitative understanding of the key biogeochemical-physical
interactions and feedbacks between the ocean and the atmosphere.
WCRP co-sponsors the project jointly with the Commission on Atmospheric Chemistry and Global Pollution
(CACGP), the International
Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR).
The project foci are: biogeochemical interactions and feedbacks
between ocean and atmosphere; exchange processes at the air-sea
interface and the role of transport and transformation in the
atmospheric and oceanic boundary layers; air-sea fluxes of carbon
dioxide and
other long-lived radiatively active gases. |
