ESSP OSC: Regional Sustainability Challenges to the Earth System 26.10.2006
From the Amazon to Monsoon Asia to sub-Saharan Africa, regions around the world are facing unprecedented challenges induced by global environmental change. How regions can cope with the consequences of natural and human-driven changes to the Earth's environment and what future changes they expect is the focus of the Earth System Science Partnership (ESSP) Open Science Conference (OSC) being held in Beijing, 9-12 November 2006. www.essp.org/ESSP2006/.

WCRP: First Cloud Radar in Space - Milestone for Meteorology and Climate Research 28.04.2006
Today's dual launch of the CloudSat and CALIPSO satellites at the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California by the United States' NASA is expected to plug a significant gap in the scientific ability to observe the atmosphere and monitor climate evolution. Atmospheric scientists, cloud and climate modellers at WMO and the WCRP have long been preparing for these missions.
